Senior Backend Engineer (Python) – Contractor LATAM

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python experience and a track record of third-party API integrations to join a high-impact FinTech team. This role is dedicated to building and managing partner integrations that expand money movement and disbursement capabilities for a fast-growing remittances platform. Beyond technical depth, this position calls for someone who can communicate clearly and manage relationships with external partners throughout both the integration and operational lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Python.
• Lead integrations with external partners and third-party APIs.
• Collaborate directly with financial and payment partners, stakeholders, engineering, product, and cross-functional teams during technical discussions and implementation.
• Analyze integration requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.
• Ensure the reliability, security, and performance of partner-facing services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex integration and production issues.
• Work closely with Product, Engineering, and external stakeholders to deliver business-critical fintech capabilities.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering best practices.

Requirements

Must-Have

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong professional experience with Python.
• Proven experience integrating with third-party APIs and external platforms.
• Experience in FinTech, payments, remittances, banking, or related financial services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage technical conversations with external partners and stakeholders.
• Experience designing scalable and maintainable backend systems.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
• Advanced English proficiency (spoken and written).

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with money movement, disbursements, payment networks, or FX platforms.
• Familiarity with cloud-based architectures and distributed systems.
• Experience in fast-paced startup or scale-up environments.
• Knowledge of security best practices for financial integrations.
