Get to Know Darwoft
At Darwoft, we build custom software solutions and partner with international companies to create high-impact digital products.
We are a Latin American technology company with a people-first culture, strong professional standards, and a long-term partnership mindset. We work with distributed teams, complex technical challenges, and clients whose technology has a direct impact on their businesses and users.
About the Role
We're looking for a Principal macOS Systems & Security Engineer to join an international cybersecurity project focused on identity assurance, authentication, and enterprise endpoint security.
This is not a traditional macOS application development role.
You'll work much closer to the operating system, designing and evolving security-sensitive components that integrate deeply with macOS. The role involves systems programming, privileged processes, authentication, secure communication between components, cryptography, and enterprise endpoint deployment.
We're looking for someone who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with deep knowledge of macOS internals and native security frameworks, and who is comfortable solving complex problems where reliability and security are critical.
As a Principal Engineer, you'll operate as a senior individual contributor, influencing architecture and technical direction while collaborating with Engineering, Security, Product, and other technical stakeholders.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build, and evolve low-level software components running on macOS.
- Develop security-sensitive functionality related to authentication, identity, and endpoint protection.
- Work with native macOS technologies including XPC, Launch Agents, Launch Daemons, Keychain, Authorization Services, and System Extensions.
- Build and maintain privileged services and secure communication between application and system-level components.
- Contribute to integrations with the Apple Endpoint Security Framework and other native security mechanisms.
- Design software using Swift, Objective-C, C, and C++, depending on the component and technical requirements.
- Develop and maintain authentication and credential-related capabilities.
- Work with technologies and concepts such as FIDO2, WebAuthn, Passkeys, PAM, CryptoTokenKit, and certificate management.
- Apply secure coding principles and cryptographic concepts when implementing authentication and identity workflows.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues using logs, diagnostics, debugging tools, and system-level analysis.
- Design software capable of operating reliably across large enterprise endpoint environments.
- Handle challenges related to installers, code signing, entitlements, permissions, upgrades, and enterprise software distribution.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical standards for macOS platform components.
- Research new Apple APIs, operating system changes, and security mechanisms.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance on complex platform-level problems.
- Collaborate with backend and platform teams on secure communication through REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS, and network protocols.
What You Bring
- Extensive professional software engineering experience, ideally 10+ years, with significant hands-on work on macOS or similar systems-level environments.
- Deep understanding of macOS internals, operating system behavior, processes, permissions, and security architecture.
- Strong programming experience with Swift and/or Objective-C, combined with solid knowledge of C/C++.
- Hands-on experience developing software beyond the traditional application layer.
- Experience with macOS technologies such as:
- XPC
- Launch Agents
- Launch Daemons
- Keychain Services
- Authorization Services
- System Extensions
- Strong knowledge of inter-process communication and privileged operations.
- Experience debugging and troubleshooting complex system-level software.
- Understanding of authentication, identity, and secure credential management.
- Solid knowledge of networking concepts including REST APIs, HTTP/HTTPS, and TCP communication.
- Understanding of applied cryptography and common cryptographic primitives.
- Experience building reliable software distributed across enterprise environments.
- Strong ownership, autonomy, and ability to make architectural decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Nice to Have
- Experience with the Apple Endpoint Security Framework.
- Experience with CryptoTokenKit or PAM modules.
- Knowledge of FIDO2, WebAuthn, or Passkeys.
- Experience with passwordless authentication or Identity Security products.
- Experience building endpoint security, EDR, IAM, device management, or enterprise security products.
- Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and concepts such as RSA, Elliptic Curve cryptography, Diffie-Hellman, and AES.
- Experience with certificate management.
- Experience with enterprise macOS deployment and device management environments.
- Knowledge of installers, package distribution, code signing, entitlements, and macOS application lifecycle management.
- Experience modernizing Objective-C components toward Swift.
- Previous experience operating as a Principal or Staff-level Individual Contributor.
