About the Project

You'll join an international technology company building an AI and data intelligence platform for the Life Sciences industry.

The platform helps organizations work with large volumes of complex medical and scientific information, combining structured and unstructured data to support research, analysis, knowledge management, and evidence-driven decision-making.

This is a mature product environment where backend services, data processing, APIs, integrations, scalability, reliability, and software quality play a central role.

You'll work within a distributed engineering team building and evolving the backend services that power these data-intensive and AI-enabled workflows.

We're Looking for a Senior Python Backend Developer

We're looking for an experienced Python Backend Developer with strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience building production-grade APIs and backend services.

The core stack includes Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, REST APIs, and Docker.

You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and evolving backend components used by a sophisticated SaaS platform, working closely with engineers, product teams, and other technical stakeholders.

This role is particularly suited for someone who enjoys solving backend problems beyond simply implementing endpoints: API architecture, data modeling, query optimization, maintainability, testing, integrations, and scalability will all be part of the challenge.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend applications and services using Python.
  • Build robust, scalable, and well-structured RESTful APIs using FastAPI.
  • Design and evolve backend architectures that support complex, data-intensive product workflows.
  • Create and optimize PostgreSQL data models, schemas, and queries.
  • Improve database performance and identify opportunities for query and data-access optimization.
  • Build and maintain containerized services using Docker.
  • Develop integrations between internal services, external APIs, and third-party platforms.
  • Collaborate with product, frontend, data, and engineering teams to translate product requirements into maintainable technical solutions.
  • Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decision-making.
  • Write clean, modular, maintainable, and testable Python code.
  • Implement unit, integration, and API testing strategies.
  • Review code and contribute to engineering standards and development best practices.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and investigate backend performance or reliability problems.
  • Help improve existing services as the platform and its data-processing needs continue to scale.
  • Contribute to CI/CD and modern software delivery practices.
  • Document APIs, technical decisions, integrations, and backend components.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers and stakeholders working across distributed international teams.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience using Python.
  • Strong understanding of Python fundamentals and backend application design.
  • Hands-on experience building production REST APIs.
  • Experience with FastAPI or strong experience with comparable Python frameworks such as Flask or Django.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database concepts.
  • Experience designing database schemas and data models.
  • Ability to write and optimize complex SQL queries.
  • Experience working with Docker and containerized development environments.
  • Solid understanding of HTTP, REST, authentication, API design, and backend integrations.
  • Experience writing automated tests for backend applications.
  • Familiarity with Git, pull requests, branching strategies, and collaborative development workflows.
  • Understanding of software engineering principles including maintainability, separation of concerns, modularity, and code quality.
  • Experience working in distributed or remote engineering teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate complex technical issues independently.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to Have

  • Previous experience contributing to full-stack features.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based application architectures.
  • Experience working with high-volume or data-intensive applications.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous processing, background jobs, queues, or event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with API performance monitoring and observability.
  • Previous exposure to AI-powered, data intelligence, NLP, or machine-learning products.
  • Experience working in Life Sciences, Healthtech, MedTech, or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with systems where data accuracy, traceability, security, and reliability are particularly important.
